Fear has once again gripped Río Florido, in the municipality of Ocosingo, in the Mexican state of Chiapas.

According to a statement from the National Front for the Struggle for Socialism, following the presence of police and military forces in the area, women have fled with their children in their arms to take refuge in the hills, seeking to protect them from any further gunfire or confrontation.

The organization denounced the constant tension in the community and held the state government responsible for what they consider an attempt at repression.

Meanwhile, in Río Florido, the talk is not of politics, but of survival: of mothers clutching their little ones tightly, of grandparents making their way up the hills, and of families who simply long to be able to sleep peacefully in their own homes again.
