A gas leak in downtown Tijuana was brought under control by firefighters after several hours of continuous work at the intersection of Avenida Revolución and Calle 8. The leak was caused by damage to a pipeline during excavation work.

The incident was reported to 911, triggering the deployment of emergency units and a preventative operation to protect pedestrians, businesses, and homes in the area.

According to the Municipal Secretariat of Public Safety and Citizen Protection, through the Tijuana Fire Department, upon arrival at the scene, the gas leak in downtown Tijuana was confirmed, and it was determined that the damage was caused by machinery excavating the sidewalk.

In response to the risk, an operation was deployed with 15 firefighters, who worked continuously to contain the leak, secure the perimeter, and prevent a possible accumulation of gas that could lead to a larger incident.

During the operation, the company that owns the pipeline also participated, collaborating with the emergency teams to pinpoint the exact location of the damage and carry out the necessary technical procedures for its repair.

The gas leak in downtown Tijuana required constant surveillance of the area throughout the night and early morning while the work was completed.

The Tijuana Municipal Police established perimeter security and traffic control in the area, reducing vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the affected section.

The partial closure allowed firefighters and technicians to operate with less risk and ensure safe conditions for both the emergency teams and the nearby population.

Once the point of damage was located, the complete repair of the pipeline began, a process that concluded Wednesday morning. Authorities reported no injuries or additional damage during the incident.

The area was cleared after verifying that there were no gas leaks and that the gas supply had been safely restored.

Civil Protection reiterated its call to report any gas odors or hazardous situations to the emergency number, in order to respond promptly to these types of incidents.
