Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, André Driessen; the Honorary Consul, Saskia Bezemer; and the Economic Advisor, Irasema Mendoza, at the Government Palace to strengthen institutional dialogue and establish a channel for direct cooperation.

During the meeting, held in the Hall of Portraits, the Governor reiterated the State Government’s willingness to work in a coordinated manner, with defined objectives and institutional commitment, so that cooperation generates concrete benefits for both parties.

The meeting focused on strategic areas such as port development, agriculture, water management, and the energy sector, with a view to boosting the development of Yucatán.

In this context, Díaz Mena emphasized the importance of receiving the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, André Driessen, and noted that this meeting opens a channel of dialogue with a leading country in planning, cooperation, and sustainable development.

“Yucatán is experiencing a defining moment, with social stability and recognition as the safest state in Mexico, thanks to citizen collaboration and the strengthening of law enforcement agencies,” he stated.

He highlighted the history of cooperation and the confidence Dutch businesses have in Yucatán, exemplified by Heineken’s investment, and noted that the bilateral relationship focuses on strategic areas such as water management, port development, sustainable agriculture, and the energy transition.

“The Maya Renaissance project seeks to reduce inequalities through modern infrastructure, such as the expansion of the Port of Progreso, the Maya Train freight line, and industrial parks in different regions of the state, in addition to new combined-cycle power plants that will operate on natural gas,” he explained.
