The Cuauhtémoc campus of the Benito Juárez University for Well-being (Universidad del Bienestar Benito Juárez) was shut down due to non-payment of rent, affecting more than 300 law students who were relocated to the campus in Texcoco, State of Mexico.
The students reject the move, which involves commutes of up to 1.5 hours, protesting and blocking the Eje Central highway due to insecurity and high transportation costs.
Reason for closure: Non-payment of rent for the building in the Cuauhtémoc borough.
Affected: More than 300 law students.
Relocation: Forced transfer to the Texcoco campus, State of Mexico.
Protests: The students have demonstrated, arguing that the relocation prevents them from studying due to the time, cost, and distance involved, and also denouncing uncertainty regarding their degrees and professional licenses.
Actions: Raquel Sosa, director of the UBBJ, ordered the relocation, facing student opposition, according to La Crónica de Hoy and this YouTube video.
In testimony, students from the school have stated that when they explained to Raquel Sosa that Texcoco is too far away for them, the response from the General Director of the Benito Juárez University of Well-being (Universidad del Bienestar Benito Juárez) was despotic, arrogant, and rude.
The closure occurred abruptly, leaving students in academic uncertainty at the beginning of January 2026.
