Claudia Sheinbaum cancels taxes on video games; bet on awareness
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, eliminated the eight percent tax on video games considered violent that was proposed by the 2026 Economic Package.
This Tuesday, December 23, the federal president announced: “That tax will no longer be collected […]. It is very difficult to distinguish between a video game that has violence and one that does not, so how are you going to impose a tax on it, who is going to determine that circumstance?”
Instead, he said, campaigns will be carried out to guide young people about the consequences that these games can have, since “many of them are online and generate an addiction to video games, cost money, and also promote violent behavior.”
