All you need to know about the Paisano Heroes Program

17

The Paisano Heroes Program aims to establish policies, strategies, and preventive, assistance, and guidance actions to ensure that the entry, transit, and exit of Mexicans residing abroad who are temporarily visiting Mexico are carried out with respect for their rights, the security of their belongings, and their awareness of their obligations.

Upon your arrival in Mexico, locate the Program’s information booths, which will be staffed by “Observers”—members of civil society—who will provide you with information about government procedures and services you can access both within and outside of Mexico.

Furthermore, suppose during your time in the country, you are a victim of any abuse by federal, state, and/or municipal public servants. In that case, the observers can receive your complaints, which will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

The Paisano Observers are people like you, with a vocation for service, and eager to support you during your time in Mexico.

If you are Mexican:

You must carry one of the following:

  • Valid passport.
  • Citizen ID card or personal identification card, or its equivalent.
  • Certified copy of birth certificate.
  • Consular registration card.
  • Naturalization certificate or certificate of Mexican nationality.
  • Voter ID card issued by the National Electoral Institute (INE).

If you are traveling with a minor:

  • Original official photo ID (valid passport).
  • Certified copy of the minor’s birth certificate to prove parentage.
  • Apostille of the birth certificates issued by the Civil Registry in the U.S., if your children were born in the U.S., and you did not register their Mexican birth certificates.

If you do not have documents that prove your legal status, you must make a sworn statement and provide information to verify your identity.

If you are a foreigner:

You must pay the “Visitor Fee without permission to engage in remunerated activities” (DNR).

The DNR is the fee that foreigners must pay upon entering Mexico as “Visitors without permission to engage in remunerated activities,” for travel purposes such as tourism, business, or other reasons, by air, sea, or land. The fee for 2024 was $717.00 (Seven hundred seventeen pesos 00/100 M.N.) per person, and it is updated on January 1st of each year.
