Federal authorities detected an operation that was sending drugs on commercial flights without inspection or documentation, leading to a multi-million dollar seizure and several arrests.

Members of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), seized 271 packages weighing approximately 270 kilograms of suspected cocaine at Mexico City International Airport (AICM). During the operation, two vans and four cell phones were also seized, and four people linked to drug-related offenses were arrested.

According to the Navy, the seizure was the result of fieldwork that identified evidence of a drug trafficking network sending packages on commercial flights to Tijuana, Baja California. Authorities stated that the organization exploited deficiencies in the X-ray screening process and bypassed the required shipping procedures.

On November 21, personnel from the Naval Airport Protection Unit detected four individuals transporting various packages in Terminal 2 of the capital’s airport. After conducting an inspection, the packages containing the narcotics were located.

The detainees were informed of their rights and subsequently turned over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, along with the seized drugs, vehicles, and cell phones. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine their legal status and confirm the structure behind the attempted shipment.

According to official estimates, the seizure represents an estimated economic loss of 92,048,498 pesos for organized crime. The Mexican Navy (SEMAR) emphasized that these types of seizures are part of its ongoing operations to deter illicit activities at strategic airport facilities.

The operation adds to inter-institutional efforts to strengthen controls on air cargo and prevent criminal organizations from using commercial flights to transport narcotics.
