The Mexican government has sent 600 soldiers to Chihuahua in the wake of a massacre at a private racetrack in the southern tip of the state.

The soldiers already deployed around the cities of Parral, Jimenez, and other areas, Chihuahua Attorney General Cesar Jauregui said on Thursday, November 20th.

He has declined to elaborate on the specifics of their mission. But he confirmed that a turf war between two cells of rival cartels is what suggested last Saturday’s attack at Carril Santa Teresa in which seven men were shot to death.

“Los Tigres and another group are fighting over the area […] they remain in conflict,” Jauregui said. “It is not new, it’s something dating back (to an attack on another racetrack last year). People lost their lives at the hands of the persons who were struck this time.”

Mexican authorities have told Border Report news partner ProVideo members of La Linea drug cartel are responsible for last week’s massacre.

La Linea and various cells of the Sinaloa cartel have repeatedly clashed in western and southern Chihuahua state for control of drugs and migrant trafficking routes to the United States and criminal activity such as kidnapping, extortion, illegal logging and fuel theft in the state.

No arrests have been reported in connection to the Santa Teresa racetrack massacre.
