COZUMEL, Mexico — The 17th edition of Ironman Cozumel will take place on Sunday, November 23, 2025, transforming the island into a global stage for endurance sports. The event, recognized as one of Latin America’s premier triathlons, attracts 2,078 athletes from 81 countries, including nearly 100 professionals, all competing for glory and coveted slots at the Ironman World Championship.

Competitors face the classic Ironman challenge: a 3.8-kilometer swim in Cozumel’s crystal-clear Caribbean waters, followed by a 180-kilometer cycling course around the island, and concluding with a 42.2-kilometer marathon run through the vibrant streets of San Miguel de Cozumel. The island’s natural beauty and supportive crowds created an unforgettable atmosphere, reinforcing Cozumel’s reputation as a destination race.

This year’s race also serves as the Latin American Championship, offering 100 age-group qualification slots for Kona, alongside eight professional slots. Headlining the field were American triathlete Matthew Marquardt and Austrian contender Lisa Perterer, both vying for top honors.

Ironman Cozumel has become legendary in triathlon circles, partly due to Kristian Blummenfelt’s record-breaking debut in 2021, when he completed the course in 7:21:12 under favorable swim conditions. That legacy continues to inspire athletes who see Cozumel as both a test of endurance and a celebration of the sport.

Local officials highlight the economic and cultural impact of the event, noting that thousands of visitors fill hotels, restaurants, and tour services. “Ironman Cozumel showcases our island’s hospitality and natural wonders to the world,” said a representative from the municipal tourism office.

With its combination of world-class competition and Caribbean charm, Ironman Cozumel 2025 reaffirmed its place as one of the most iconic triathlons on the global calendar.
