A passenger bus was intercepted in Yucatán, on the Campeche-Mérida highway, carrying 3.7 million pesos worth of drugs, which were seized by authorities. The FGR reported that two men were arrested.

In a statement, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced that in an operation involving members of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), Abraham “N” and Gabriel “N” were arrested. The drugs were seized, and the two men were presented before the Federal Public Prosecutor.

How were the drugs found?

The bulletin explains that the incident occurred “after a canine unit detected a granulated substance with the characteristics of the drug known as crystal meth in their respective backpacks, which were located in the luggage compartment of the bus they were traveling on.”

The statement details that the bus was traveling on the Campeche-Mérida highway, but upon reaching kilometer 100-104, at the Phytosanitary Control checkpoint in the municipality of Halachó, Yucatán, an inspection was carried out, where more than 14 kilos of methamphetamine were found.

The amount of drugs seized from the two detainees, also known as crystal meth, would have a street value of 3.7 million pesos.

This multi-million peso quantity of drugs circulating in the state of Yucatán comes after the Security Cabinet reported a similar incident just a week ago at the same location, where they seized 21 kilos of methamphetamine, valued at 5.6 million pesos, from a bus bound for Quintana Roo.

Therefore, the value of the 14 kilos of drugs that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) now reports were being transported on a bus traveling the Campeche-Mérida highway is equivalent to 3.7 million pesos.

During an inspection at the Halachó checkpoint, authorities seized 14 kilos, 11 grams, and 200 milligrams of methamphetamine hydrochloride—commonly known as crystal meth—which Abraham and Gabriel were transporting hidden in two backpacks.

The state agency specified that one backpack contained 6.4743 kilograms and the other 7.5369 kilograms.
The two men were charged with transporting 14 kilograms of crystal meth.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) stated that the Public Prosecutor’s Office, through its Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office (Fecor) in the state of Yucatán, obtained a formal indictment from the judge specializing in the Accusatory Criminal System against both defendants for the crime of drug trafficking, specifically the transportation of methamphetamine hydrochloride.

It should be noted that the Federal Public Prosecutor gathered sufficient evidence to impose the precautionary measure of mandatory pretrial detention and set a one-month deadline for the supplementary investigation.

The agency did not provide details about where the detainees boarded the bus, nor which drug cartel they work for, among all those operating in Mexico, nor did it specify the final destination of the product for distribution and consumption.
