In a fiery statement issued from Washington, D.C., U.S. Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL) lashed out at the Mexican government, accusing the ruling Morena party of operating a “narco-government” and expressing solidarity with Mexican citizens protesting its leadership. The remarks come amid growing tensions between the United States and Mexico over security, trade, and democratic governance.

“From the United States Congress, we express our full support for all decent Mexicans who have taken to the streets of their country to express their discontent with the Morena party’s narco-government,” Gimenez declared. “It’s time they reclaim their country from these bandits.”

Gimenez’s comments follow a series of demonstrations across Mexico, where citizens have voiced concerns over corruption, rising violence, and alleged ties between political figures and organized crime. The Congressman, a Cuban-American and member of the House Homeland Security Committee, has been a vocal critic of leftist governments in Latin America, including those in Cuba and Venezuela.

In recent weeks, Gimenez also urged the Trump administration to adopt a tougher stance in upcoming USMCA trade negotiations, citing Mexico’s alleged complicity with authoritarian regimes and its failure to curb drug trafficking. He has called for sanctions and increased scrutiny of Mexico’s political and economic dealings.

The Mexican government has not officially responded to Gimenez’s statement, but analysts warn that such rhetoric could strain diplomatic relations and complicate bilateral cooperation on key issues like immigration and trade.

Gimenez’s remarks reflect a broader trend among U.S. lawmakers pushing for more aggressive policies toward Latin American governments they view as threats to regional stability and democratic norms.
