Citizens launched online campaigns to collect signatures demanding her dismissal.
They accuse her of a delayed response, a lack of transparency, and a decision that proved fatal: she canceled the state natural disaster insurance in May, which covered up to 400 million pesos. Instead, she created the Veracruz Insurance Company (AVSI), but it has no capital, no staff, and no official registration.
A massive march was called in six cities under the slogan “Our colleagues are not just another number.” Meanwhile, Nahle downplayed the emergency, saying that the Cazones River had “slightly” flooded, even though images showed entire communities underwater.
Added to this are previous accusations: her husband working in the state cabinet, accusations of corruption at the Dos Bocas refinery during his time at the Ministry of Energy, and the appointment of officials without a technical background in critical areas such as Civil Protection.
AMLO’s phrase “the people put in and the people take away” is now used as a slogan against the Morena governor.
Although there has been no formal request in Congress, social pressure is growing. Veracruz has been declared a disaster area 130 times in 25 years, and this tragedy exposed the total lack of prevention.
