Mexico lives under a dictatorship today (Opinion)

According to Noticias Tendencia, today, it’s common to read and hear quite a few Mexican commentators and journalists casually declare that “we already live under a dictatorship.”
Others, more daring, dare to diagnose that “the dictatorship in Mexico continues to advance.”

It’s even becoming more common every day to read in the foreign press that Mexico is heading, irreversibly, toward a system identical to that experienced by the Cuban and Venezuelan regimes.

And if you doubt it, through his social media, US Congressman Carlos Giménez issued a stern warning to Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, stating that the US could treat our country the same as the Cuban and Venezuelan regimes if Mexico doesn’t change its position as an ally of those tyrannies.

The Republican also referred to the Mexican oil gifted to the Cuban dictatorship, the amount of which exceeds all historical aid standards.

In response—also on his social media accounts and with a clumsiness that surprises no one—Mexico’s ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma, explained to the congressman that our country “acts based on its traditional foreign policy principles” and that “suggesting that Mexico should be treated as a pariah contradicts the close commercial collaboration between the two countries.” (END OF QUOTE)

Hours later, and again on his social media accounts, Congressman Carlos Giménez responded as follows: “Perhaps the Sheinbaum administration was inspired by the regimes of Cuba and Venezuela when it flagrantly expropriated the US companies Vulcan Materials and LIBRE.

“That doesn’t sound to me like a shared commitment to the progress of our region. Cooperation is not a one-way street. Do you want to advance trade and relations between the United States and Mexico?” Start with accountability.” (END OF QUOTE)

But that wasn’t all.
In another message on X, the Republican congressman was devastating with Esteban Moctezuma: “Mr. Ambassador, Mexico clearly values your pathetic support for the narco-terrorist dictatorships of Cuba and Venezuela more than its multi-billion dollar relations with the United States.

“We will not stand idly by while your government actively undermines US security policy.” (END OF QUOTE)

But what need does Ambassador Moctezuma have to exhibit his clumsiness in this way?

The truth is that no one—not in Mexico, much less in the world—can avoid the perception that Mexicans already live under a dictatorship.

And that perception is fueled daily from the Palace, where the president exhibits not only her dictatorial nature, but also her taste for tyranny.

That’s why she came up with the “brilliant” idea of announcing that she would not attend the Summit of the Americas, which will be held in the Dominican Republic next December, in response to the fact that the governments of Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua were not invited.

In other words, the “Madam President” openly decided to align herself with the most questionable Latin American dictatorships.

In addition, in another tantrum, the president also announced that Mexico and its government would not attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the most important global trade showcase in the world.

In short, the signs that Mexico is already the youngest dictatorship in the world will be confirmed worldwide.
