An investigation by Código Magenta reveals how the network headed by Andy López Beltrán, AMLO’s son, awarded contracts worth 15 billion pesos at Pemex to a company linked to Daniel Asaf’s cousin.

Revelations continue regarding the corruption and influence peddling network created by ‘Andy’ López Beltrán, son of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Secretary of Organization for Morena (National Regeneration Party).

An investigation by Código Magenta details how this network, created within Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and comprised of ‘Andy’ and his friends, benefited the company BME SUBTEC, formerly Blue Marine, with billions of pesos through a direct contract award without any public bidding process.

The contract, signed on January 24, 2023, with a value of 15 billion pesos, was for the rental of a vessel to service oil platforms for 10 years.

The person in charge of signing that contract was Javier Núñez López, former state president of Morena in Tabasco and former deputy director of Supplies for Pemex.

The relationship that influenced the company’s obtaining the contract was that of Daniel Asaf with his cousin Emiliano Pescador Asaf, director of Blue Marine. This connection favored the Asafs with the multimillion-dollar payment.

Daniel Asaf was AMLO’s chief aide and now serves as a federal deputy for Morena. He was photographed with “Andy” at The Okura hotel in Japan last July.

According to documents obtained by the website, the contract with BME SUBTEC establishes a payment of 8.761 billion pesos plus another 341 million dollars, due on January 31, 2033.

Blue Marine’s Past
On June 28, 2019, in the first year of the Obrador administration, BME SUBTEC S.A. de C.V. was registered with Public Notary 201 in Mexico City.

But according to the investigation, the newly created company was actually the new face of Blue Marine.

The motive was to clean up its image, as the company has been linked to corruption scandals with Pemex in past administrations. During the administrations of Vicente Fox, Felipe Calderón, and Enrique Peña Nieto, it obtained contracts worth more than 9.2 billion pesos and was accused of collusion and overpricing in maritime services.

One of the most controversial cases involving Blue Marine occurred in 2016, when one of its vessels leased to Pemex caught fire. The state-owned company ended up paying for the damages, despite the company being responsible.
