Yucatán SSP Cancels Registration of 24 Private Security Firms Over Noncompliance

In a sweeping regulatory move, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) of Yucatán canceled the registration of 24 private security companies in September 2025, citing multiple violations of state regulations. The decision was published in the Official Gazette of the State of Yucatán and forms part of a broader effort to strengthen oversight and ensure public safety.

According to SSP officials, the cancellations were based on noncompliance with operational standards, including failure to maintain updated permits, lack of proper training for personnel, and irregularities in documentation. In addition to the cancellations, six other companies were temporarily suspended pending further review.

The affected firms were operating across various sectors, including residential, commercial, and industrial security. Their removal from the state registry means they are no longer authorized to provide services within Yucatán, and any continued activity could result in legal penalties.

The SSP emphasized that the move aims to protect citizens and uphold the integrity of the private security industry, which plays a critical role in supplementing public law enforcement. Authorities have urged businesses and residents to verify the credentials of any security provider and consult the updated registry available through official channels.

This crackdown comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of unregulated security firms and the potential risks they pose to public trust and safety. The SSP has pledged to continue auditing registered companies and enforcing compliance with state laws.

The cancellations have left dozens of workers unemployed, prompting calls for support and retraining programs to help affected personnel transition to new roles within the legal framework.
