On October 8, 2025, Mexican authorities arrested three suspected members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) at the Cancún International Airport, following the interception of a private aircraft arriving from Guadalajara, Jalisco.

The operation was part of the National Security Plan, involving aerial and ground surveillance coordinated by the National Guard and the National Criminal Investigation Unit.

The suspects were detained shortly after landing, when security personnel flagged the aircraft for inspection due to irregularities in its flight documentation and suspicious activity. Upon searching the plane, authorities discovered a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, drugs, and cash.

Among the seized items were:

  • One 7.62 mm caliber assault rifle
  • 3,300 live cartridges
  • 50 magazines
  • 32 bags containing approximately 39 kilograms of a suspected narcotic substance

The detainees, whose identities have not been publicly disclosed, are believed to be part of a CJNG cell involved in logistics, trafficking, and armed operations. Officials stated that the group was likely transporting the materials for distribution in Quintana Roo and surrounding areas.

The arrest underscores the growing use of private aircraft by organized crime to evade detection and move illicit goods across state lines. Authorities are now investigating the flight’s origin, ownership, and potential connections to broader cartel operations.

Federal prosecutors have initiated legal proceedings, and the suspects face charges related to drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms, and organized crime involvement.

This high-profile bust marks a significant blow to CJNG’s operations in the region and highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to disrupt cartel logistics and safeguard public security.
