Federal authorities have officially confirmed that the long-awaited Nichupté Bridge in Cancún, Quintana Roo will be inaugurated in December 2025, marking a major milestone in regional infrastructure development. The announcement was made by Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), during a press briefing at Palacio Nacional.
The bridge, which is currently 87% complete, spans 11.2 kilometers and is designed to connect Cancún’s urban center with its hotel zone, offering a vital alternative route for daily commuters and emergency services. It will feature pedestrian walkways, bike lanes, and a striking 103-meter metal arch, blending functionality with architectural appeal.
More than 850 workers are involved in the final construction phase, which includes paving, lighting installation, and safety testing. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion, boost tourism, and enhance evacuation routes during hurricanes and other natural disasters.
The Nichupté Bridge is one of the most significant federal investments in Quintana Roo and is part of a broader strategy to modernize transportation infrastructure across Mexico’s southeast.
Local officials and residents have welcomed the news, anticipating improved mobility and economic benefits once the bridge opens.
