Authorities in Mérida, Yucatán, have launched a femicide investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body early Thursday morning, October 9, 2025, in the Juan Pablo II neighborhood. The victim, a 46-year-old woman originally from Chiapas, was found lifeless on the sidewalk near the intersection of Calle 5-Q and 28, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Residents reported the body to 911 around 7:30 a.m., after noticing the woman lying next to a red vehicle with one foot caught between the car’s doors. Paramedics and officers from the State Police arrived at the scene and confirmed the woman had no vital signs. The area was quickly cordoned off to preserve evidence.
The Yucatán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) activated its femicide protocol, citing the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Initial reports suggest the woman may have fallen from a height, but investigators are not ruling out foul play. The victim, identified by her initials C.F.F.R., had been staying in Mérida with her husband at a friend’s home.
Authorities are interviewing witnesses and reviewing nearby surveillance footage to determine the sequence of events. The case has sparked concern among local residents and women’s rights advocates, who are calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.
Femicide remains a pressing issue in Mexico, where gender-based violence continues to claim lives despite growing public awareness and legal reforms. The FGE has urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
A forensic team has transported the body for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. No arrests have been made as of Friday afternoon.
