Moris, Chihuahua — October 2025 — A violent ambush in the mountainous region of Moris, located in the Ocampo municipality of Chihuahua, left six police officers injured on Monday afternoon, according to state authorities. The attack occurred during a routine patrol operation aimed at deterring organized criminal activity in the area.

Officials from the State Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the officers were part of a joint task force involving the State Investigation Agency (AEI), the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE). The patrol was traveling along a remote dirt road connecting the town of El Pilar to the municipal center when armed assailants opened fire from concealed positions.

The injured officers were evacuated under heavy security and transported to a regional hospital. Their conditions are reported to be stable, though two remain under close observation due to the severity of their wounds.

Authorities believe the ambush was orchestrated by members of a criminal group operating in the Sierra Tarahumara region, which has seen a surge in violence in recent months. The area’s rugged terrain and limited connectivity have made it a strategic hideout for organized crime.

In response, security forces launched a coordinated sweep of the surrounding area, dismantling a suspected criminal encampment in El Pilar later that day. No arrests have been made, but officials say investigations are ongoing and additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent further attacks.

The incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in northern Mexico, where drug trafficking and territorial disputes continue to fuel violence. State and federal authorities have pledged to maintain a strong presence in the region to safeguard residents and restore order.
