The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is the agency responsible for distributing electricity to all homes in Mexico. In recent years, its service has not been as efficient as it should be in some regions of the country, such as the Yucatán Peninsula, where frequent blackouts affect homes and the region’s economic activity.
The energy supply is a basic service in homes, not only because it allows us to carry out daily activities such as using household appliances, but also because we can perform work activities, in some cases.
That’s why we pay close attention to the cost of our electricity bills, because any adjustment in payment directly impacts our finances, especially in the final stretch of the year as we approach the December holidays: Christmas and New Year’s, when expenses increase, including energy costs associated with seasonal decorations.
Consequently, we must plan ahead, so we’re telling you when the CFE subsidy will end in Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and other states.
It’s important to remember that, in some states of the Mexican Republic, special discounts have been applied to electricity bills during the summer since May 1, 2025, with the aim of reducing household spending during the high-temperature season in Mexico.
This measure benefits the population in states that are very hot for much of the year, such as the southeastern states of Mexico, where the tropical climate predominates. It is essential for using air conditioning and fans.
Meanwhile, in other states where frost and high temperatures are recorded, requiring the use of heating, they also consume more kilowatts per hour.
CFE applies a special rate: summer subsidy
Therefore, during the summer, the CFE applies a special rate with the activation of the subsidy plan, which is a type of discount; This means you can consume the same amount of energy, but pay a lower price. This allows for improved savings and meeting the needs of each household without having to pay a fortune.
However, September 21st marks the formal end of summer. Therefore, the CFE will stop offering this discount in many regions.
But why do we still have a subsidy? As a form of assistance, the CFE extended the energy discount for a while longer, due to extreme temperatures caused by climate change. Pay attention to this date, because your bill could soon increase.
Who benefits from the CFE summer subsidy?
According to the CFE, this support, which benefits the family economy of Mexican households, is granted to those enrolled in rates 1A, 1C, 1D, 1E, and 1F, as long as the monthly consumption limit defined for each rate type is not exceeded.
However, the benefit is aimed at home users located in areas where the average temperature exceeds 33 degrees Celsius.
October is the last month to receive the CFE subsidy in 2025 in the three states of the Yucatán Peninsula: Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán.
It will end on November 1st, and you will start paying more for your electricity bill, even if you consume the same amount of energy.
Remember that the discount is applied automatically and directly to your electricity bill; you just have to be careful and pay attention.
And even if you have to pay the normal cost of electricity, you can save money by replacing your appliances with others that use less energy.
Also, keep in mind that a damaged appliance can increase the price of your bill.
