In front of the Plaza Fiesta parking lot, there is an abandoned lot, part of which is planned for a new shopping center, in the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz neighborhood of Mérida.
There will be a five-day period for residents to make comments or proposals regarding the project.
Residents of the area have five business days to exercise their right to public consultation on two projects in the process of being approved: a shopping mall in Mérida and a materials bank in Cuncunul, a municipality in eastern Yucatán, the state Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SDS) announced today.
Similar to what is already happening with the proposed subdivision in Kanasín and a warehouse in Conkal, residents of Mérida and Cuncunul who wish to participate in the public consultations should visit the SDS office at lot 437 on 64th Street between 47-A and 53rd Streets in downtown Mérida, located between the neighborhoods of Santa Lucía and Santa Ana.
There, they should request the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for file 094/2025, corresponding to the shopping mall project in Mérida, or the EIS for file 116/2022, for the materials bank in Cuncunul.
Participants will then be able to propose, where appropriate, additional prevention and mitigation measures regarding the environmental impacts of each project, as well as make observations, according to the SDS.
The SDS issued notices for these public consultations on April 15, 2025 (the Cuncunul materials bank) and August 25 (the Mérida shopping mall).
But both were published on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in the Official Gazette of the State of Yucatán (DOEY), so the last day of both consultations will be Tuesday, September 23, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
