On August 28, 2025, Mexican journalist Ana Luz Solís, founder of News San Miguel, delivered a powerful testimony at the National Meeting of Women Journalists in Mexico City, denouncing a sustained campaign of harassment and threats allegedly orchestrated by the municipal government of San Miguel de Allende.

Solís, known for her investigative reporting on corruption and political misconduct, revealed that her work has triggered retaliatory actions targeting both her professional and personal life. “They’ve weaponized my body, my relationships, and even my photographs as tools of gender-based violence,” she stated during the forum. The attacks reportedly include public smear campaigns, doxxing on social media, and legal complaints filed by municipal officials—all aimed at silencing her critical voice.

Her case was featured in the report Las forma del siege, compiled by Comunicación e Información de la Mujer A.C. (CIMAC), which documents 1,189 aggressions against women journalists during the López Obrador administration. The report highlights that municipal authorities account for 13.4% of these attacks, with threats, intimidation, and discrediting tactics among the most common forms of violence.

Solís’s denunciation underscores the broader crisis of press freedom and gendered violence in Mexico, particularly for women journalists operating in politically sensitive regions. Despite previous attempts to seek justice, including filing complaints against Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco, his case was dismissed by local prosecutors.

Her courageous testimony has reignited calls for institutional accountability and protective measures for journalists. As Solís concluded, “This isn’t just about me—it’s about every woman who dares to speak truth to power.” Her voice, amplified at the national level, continues to challenge the silence imposed by fear.
