The organizers announced the schedule for the beach cleanup.

On September 20th, Yucatán will host a major simultaneous beach cleanup event covering 14 coastal areas, from Celestún to El Cuyo, as part of International Beach Cleanup Day.

The initiative is led by the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SDS), in coordination with the civil association Limpiemos Yucatán (Let’s Clean Yucatán), as well as coastal municipalities, businesses, schools, universities, and civil society organizations. Therefore, the head of the SDS, Neyra Silvia Rosado, acknowledged that this type of work can generate significant environmental change if everyone does their part.

According to the official, nearly 4,000 volunteers have joined these activities, including fishermen, civil associations, and citizens, who have worked along 12 kilometers of the coastline. Fernando Méndez Al Faro, president of Limpiemos Yucatán, noted that this will be the third edition of the beach cleanup, in which they hope to surpass the results of previous years.

Méndez Alfaro indicated that, in addition to the cleanup, environmental education activities will be held at some locations, such as birdwatching, traveling to invertebrate museums and workshops, and a bazaar for local entrepreneurs in Progreso.

The logistics of the event will begin with the arrival of volunteers at 7:00 a.m. The beaches to be cleaned include Celestún, Chabihau, Chelem, Chicxulub, Chuburná, Dzilam de Bravo, El Cuyo, Las Coloradas, Progreso, Río Lagartos, San Crisanto, Santa Clara, Sisal, and Telchac.
