Nuevo Leon State Police officers were patrolling an area bordering Tamaulipas when they were attacked.

At least 12 men from an armed group were killed in a clash with state police in the Doctor Coss municipality, about 140 kilometers east of Monterrey.

According to the Civil Force, state police officers were patrolling the area bordering Tamaulipas when they were attacked.

The officers repelled the attack, leading to a clash between the two sides. At the end of the shootout, the official death toll stood at 12.

The Civil Force reported that eight long-range weapons, magazines, cartridges, and tactical equipment were also seized and abandoned.

The state Public Security Secretariat also reported that there were no casualties or injuries among its personnel, while a security presence is maintained in the area and the investigation continues.

Doctor Coss is a small municipality that, along with other towns in the east, has been immersed for years in a struggle between armed groups for control of the area adjacent to Tamaulipas.

Furthermore, the internal highways in the area and the one from Monterrey to Reynosa are a constant scene of robberies and kidnappings for those traveling to or from the United States.
