Norma Bustamante, mayor of Mexicali, and her husband, Luis Samuel Guerrero, have joined the controversy over the revocation of US visas for public officials in Mexico.
Both Bustamante and her husband, Luis Samuel Guerrero, had their documents revoked, according to Zeta. The weekly added that the order to revoke Guerrero’s visa also extended to his wife.
However, the sanction against the mayor has not been proven because she has not attempted to cross into the United States.
Guerrero is a doctor by profession, but holds positions in the Ministry of Health and the State Council for Accident Prevention (COEPRA).
“That situation occurred on August 8 when he tried to cross at the old port of entry, between Mexicali and Calexico, but he was sent for a second inspection. He was there for an hour and a half, and his visa was revoked due to an ongoing process by the U.S. State Department and Treasury Department,” said reporter Tiffany Abish in an interview with Azucena Uresti.
What do we know about the revocation of Norma Bustamante’s visa?
According to reports, Norma Bustamante, the mayor of Mexicali, does not usually travel to the United States, so she had not clarified the situation regarding her visa.
Through her social media, Bustamante denied that her immigration document had been revoked, but acknowledged that her husband’s visa had been withheld.
“Regarding the information regarding my husband, Luis Guerrero’s immigration status, we clarify that he was interviewed for review at the Mexicali border crossing. After asking a series of questions, the authorities withheld his visa without any reason or prior notice. This only affects him in his border crossing situation,” Bustamante said in the post.
