On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the coastal city of Boca del Río, Veracruz, was shaken by the brutal murder of Dr. Ribsaim Rodríguez Reta, a respected dentist and public health worker. The incident occurred in the upscale Costa de Oro neighborhood, where Rodríguez was ambushed at his residence by armed assailants seeking to steal his vehicle.
According to initial reports, Rodríguez had just arrived home when three men confronted him, demanding his Kia truck. When he resisted, the attackers shot him multiple times, killing him on the spot. The assailants fled in the stolen vehicle, triggering a swift response from local authorities.
Using the truck’s GPS tracking system, police located the vehicle on Díaz Mirón Avenue in nearby Veracruz City. A high-speed chase and shootout ensued, leaving one suspect injured and under arrest. The truck was later found abandoned and riddled with bullet holes on Velázquez de la Cadena Street, where it had crashed into a post. The remaining suspects escaped and are still at large.
Rodríguez, originally from Soledad de Doblado, operated two dental clinics and worked for the Veracruz Health Secretariat. His death has sparked an outpouring of grief from colleagues, patients, and friends, who remember him as a kind, dedicated professional.
Despite the arrest, many in the community are demanding justice and greater security measures. The tragedy underscores the growing threat of violent crime in Veracruz and the vulnerability of professionals who serve their communities.
Authorities continue to investigate, while Rodríguez’s loved ones mourn a life cut short by senseless violence.
