The Morelos government confirmed that Nissan is maintaining production at the Jiutepec plant. The company confirmed to Economic Development that it is not currently considering changes to its production line.

There is confidence that the automotive company Nissan will maintain operations at the Civac plant, located in the municipality of Jiutepec, and therefore, there is ongoing monitoring and dialogue with its management, said the Secretary of Economic Development and Labor, Víctor Sánchez Trujillo, to El Sol de Cuernavaca.

An article by Owen Scott in The Sun reported that Nissan was considering closing two assembly plants in Mexico: the Civac plant in Morelos and the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes. This is all part of its global restructuring plan called “Re:Nissan.” The original source of the information was Automotive News.

In response, in Morelos, Víctor Sánchez explained that he recently spoke with executives from the automotive company, who told him that, for now, the decision to maintain Nissan’s operations in Civac remains in place.

“They told me that the formal response is that Nissan constantly evaluates the performance of its various factories, but has only decided to close those that have already been reported, which does not include Civac,” he indicated.

Thus, the production line that was relocated from Argentina, as announced in early 2025, is still in place. The official also made it clear that any changes in business decisions would be notified through the institutional channels of the Morelos government, in coordination with Nissan and other relevant stakeholders.

“The truth is that the company conducts the corresponding assessment of all its plants worldwide, but when there is any new development, it will announce it concretely and not unofficially,” Sánchez Trujillo stated.

According to Automotive News, the closure was planned for 2027.

Sánchez Trujillo indicated that the information shared in the statement aims to avoid uncertainty among the automotive company’s workforce in Morelos.
