On Thursday, July 10th, in a major police operation during a search of a tortilla factory, the arrest of Fernando R.C., aka “El Patrón Fernando,” or “El Patrón de Conkal,” was confirmed by the SSP. Fernando was an alleged drug lord in Yucatán who operated a distribution network in the northern part of Mérida, Yucatán.
“Patrón” is the Spanish word for Boss.
It was reported on social media that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) participated in the operation, along with members of the National Guard (GN), the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), and the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) of Yucatán.
Reports indicate that during the search, which took place at the Xcuyún Conkal police station on a property located on 19th Street between 26th and 28th Streets, they also arrested Kevin N. He allegedly collaborated in the distribution of illicit substances, implicating several people.
Unofficial sources indicate that the alleged drug lord in Yucatán was already under the scrutiny of authorities, following citizen complaints about the presence of suspicious individuals and drug-related activities, which led to an investigation by federal authorities.
In this context, the capture of “El Patrón Fernando” would represent a blow to local drug dealing, as it is said that he had been operating for some time in the northern region—although this remains to be confirmed by authorities—with a local distribution network that allegedly included young people recruited for this activity.
Furthermore, canine teams trained in narcotics detection also participated in the police operation.
It was learned that various types of drugs were seized at the scene, including cocaine, marijuana, crystal meth, psychotropic pills, as well as instruments used for handling and packaging drugs. Preliminary reports indicate that it was a tortilla factory. Still, it also served as a distribution point for narcotics to Conkal, Cholul, Temozón, and other areas in northern Mérida, Yucatán.
