According to KGNS, armored vehicles and troops arrived in Laredo amid military support plans at the border.
Armored vehicles and tanks have been officially deployed along the riverbanks in Laredo, right across the border from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
On June 30, city officials discussed the possibility of a military deployment to support border operations in the city. Approximately 100 soldiers and 10 small Stryker vehicles from the U.S. military are set to arrive to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Since early 2025, CBP has reported a historic decrease in illegal crossings at the southwest border. The Laredo Sector currently averages about 13 crossings daily. Despite this reduction, immigration enforcement remains a top priority for the federal government under the Trump administration.
U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar also indicated that the federal government is exploring new military zones along the border, with Laredo and Zapata suggested as potential locations. It remains unclear which town will be selected.
