His story has caused sadness and rage among Mexicans and Americans alike. As a Mexican migrant in California, he has lived on US soil for more than 30 years, started a family, and earned a living as a gardener. He has two sons serving in the Marines and a war veteran, all of whom have served the United States armed forces. After a recent raid, Narciso was violently detained by ICE agents.
Videos on social media show Narciso being detained by alleged agents who beat him while he is on the floor. The images have been shared worldwide. The agents claim the man attacked them with a lawnmower (if such a thing is possible), while his family claims he was assaulted without resistance.
Even Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico, has condemned the attack on the Mexican migrant.
The president has described the attack on the Mexican gardener detained in Santa Ana, California, allegedly while working as a gardener, as “an unforgivable injustice.” She explained that the consulate already provides legal and medical care.
Sheinbaum emphasized that millions of Mexicans in the U.S. are not criminals, but “heroes,” and stated her commitment to continue strengthening the consular network and demanding that the migrant community not be criminalized.
The Mexican consulate in Los Angeles and civil organizations are demanding an investigation, while the family is raising funds for their legal defense and medical care.
