Al Brown, 50, traveled by bicycle to Mexico, specifically to the town of Tepoztlan, Morelos, to fulfill a dream and temporarily labor in a “work away” (a way of traveling by exchanging work for accommodation and, sometimes, food), while recovering from a hernia.
Tragically, on June 2, he suffered an electric shock after touching a wire while performing maintenance on a house and died there.
Al Brown was a grandfather of five, much loved in his community of Norwich, United Kingdom, where he was known for his adventurous spirit as a fisherman and cyclist.
He was traveling across America on a route that would culminate in his return home to meet his new grandson. His story has moved everyone to the core: it is an example of passion, dedication… and the ephemerality of life.
A GoFundMe campaign started by his friends aims to support repatriation and funeral expenses, as well as to provide a dignified farewell.
His legacy lives on in those who knew him and in those who honor him today on two continents.
