RIP Salomón “Shalom” Ordoñez Miranda

Mexican journalist Salomón “Shalom” Ordoñez Miranda died on Monday, June 23, after being shot in Papahtapan, in the municipality of Cuetzalan del Progreso, Puebla.

This was reported on Tuesday, June 24, by the civil organization Propuesta Cívica. This is the seventh journalist killed in Mexico so far this year, according to UNESCO figures.

Ordoñez Miranda was the administrator of the digital media outlet Shalom Cuetzalan Producciones, which, as of Wednesday, had approximately 75,000 followers and reported on local activities in the municipality of approximately 50,000 inhabitants.

The Puebla Prosecutor’s Office has not reported on the progress of its investigation, but no arrests have been made.

“Our full support, our solidarity, and our respect,” said Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier at a meeting with journalists on Tuesday, reiterating his commitment to advancing the investigations.

Before Ordóñez Miranda, UNESCO reported that so far in 2025, at least six journalists have been murdered in different Mexican states.

All of them, like Salomón Ordoñez, worked for local media outlets.

In March, UNESCO called on Mexican authorities to strengthen mechanisms to protect journalists in the country.

The Puebla Post sends its sincere condolences to the friends and family of Salomón “Shalom” Ordoñez Miranda. RIP.
