The kidnapping of these women lasted at least six hours; the Tabasco Prosecutor’s Office stated they continue to investigate the case without a single arrest.
An armed group kidnapped, assaulted, and sexually abused several women on Caracol Beach, located in the Pénjamo neighborhood of the municipality of Paraíso, in the Mexican state of Tabasco, homeland of former Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, June 21st, and lasted at least six hours, until early Sunday morning, when the victims were finally released, the local press reported.
According to reports collected by media outlets such as XEVT, at least seven armed men broke into a home where several bathers were present.
Under death threats, they subdued the women and robbed them of belongings such as money, jewelry, computers, and personal documents.
The women were later taken to the beach, where the attackers forced them to lie face down on the sand. Meanwhile, they emptied their bank accounts using their cards and passwords.
This is not an isolated incident. On April 19, three women were victims of a similar attack at Playa Bruja, also in Paraíso.
So far, no arrests have been made in either case. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has initiated an investigation but remains completely secretive.
The recurrence of this type of crime in a tourist area has generated alarm among the local population and visitors. Activists and citizens have begun demanding a greater security presence on the beaches.
Authorities recovered the vehicles used by the attackers, one of them a blue Nissan Versa with Tabasco license plates, abandoned in the Zaragoza ranch. The FGE continues its investigation but has not provided any concrete progress or reported on clear lines of investigation.
The community demands justice in the face of authorities’ inaction and fears an increase in violence against women in recreational areas of the state of Tabasco, where the crime rate has skyrocketed uncontrollably during the Sheinbaum administration.
