Mexico Suffers Violent Weekend in the month of June, as a total of 195 Homicides were reported on one weekend.
Mexico experienced a surge in violence over the weekend of June 6-8, 2025, with a staggering 195 homicides reported nationwide.
This translates to a murder occurring approximately every 20 minutes, according to a report by Azteca Noticias.
The violence was particularly concentrated in certain states. Sinaloa bore the brunt of the violence, reporting 24 homicides. Chihuahua followed with 15, Mexico City with 14, and Guanajuato with 9.
These figures, based on government security reports, paint a grim picture of the ongoing security challenges facing the country.
“The violence doesn’t relent and reflects the security crisis plaguing the nation,” stated the Azteca Noticias report.
The report highlighted the urgency of addressing the root causes of this violence and the need for strengthened security measures.
The sheer number of homicides over such a short period underscores the severity of the situation.
While the government is working to combat the violence, the continuing high rate of killings remains a significant concern for the safety and security of Mexican citizens.
It is worth mentioning that during last weekend (June 20-22), 179 homicides were registered nationwide, only sixteen fewer than on the weekend of June 6-8.
Meanwhile, President Claudia Sheinbaum sustains that Mexico is a “peaceful” country, and that the number of homicides is decreasing, while the truth is that Mexico’s murder rate hits its highest level in decades.
