IFT Fines Carlos Slim’s Company for Monopolistic Practices

The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) fined Carlos Slim’s telephone company 1.783 billion pesos for alleged monopolistic practices.

The institute’s resolution indicates that the reason for the fine was “the granting of incentives and benefits to Oxxo and IMMEX, as well as an indirect distribution channel, on the condition that they not sell SIM cards of economic agents that would affect Telcel nationwide.”

This is believed to be the result of an investigation initiated in 2021 for alleged practices related to the distribution and sale of SIM cards in various convenience stores.
