After being reported missing earlier this week, 10-year-old Josmi Emir was found dead and half-buried in his grandmother’s yard in the town of Yecapixtla, Morelos.
According to his search report posted online, the child was last seen on June 10 in the community of Texcala, wearing his school uniform.
Various media outlets report that the child was found half-buried in his grandmother’s home, showing signs of violence, on Wednesday, June 11.
The last time he was seen alive, he was leaving his elementary school, wearing a white shirt with blue stripes and navy blue pants. A distinguishing feature was a mole on his left elbow.
When Josmi was reported missing, more than 400 residents joined the search, along with members of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and state authorities.
Miguel Ángel Urrutia, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Morelos, recognized the community’s participation as key during the first hours.
“The community itself came together: at least 400 residents of Texcala met with members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard. This Ministry was fully committed to the search,” he stated.
Urrutia reported that the state Attorney General’s Office already has clear lines of investigation.
“Unfortunately, this minor was found dead. The Attorney General’s Office is carrying out the investigation, and there will be results soon. There is evidence of the involvement of at least one suspect,” he indicated.
The minor’s family went to the Prosecutor’s Office to give their statements. So far, no arrests have been reported.
After learning of the discovery, family members, friends, and community members expressed their outrage and grief over Josmi’s murder on social media. Through messages, photographs, and posts, they demanded justice and punishment for those responsible.
