A recent operation by the Mexican Navy led to the seizure of a massive cocaine shipment weighing approximately two tons off the coast of Acapulco, Guerrero.
The bust occurred during maritime patrols conducted by the Navy’s Eighth Naval Region, which utilized helicopters and early warning aircraft to locate and recover the illegal cargo. The cocaine was found packed in 95 packages floating on the high seas, a method often used by drug traffickers to evade detection.

This operation highlights the strategic importance of Acapulco for drug cartels, given its geographic location and access to international shipping routes. The port city has long been a hotspot for organized crime, with several powerful cartels, including the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel, operating in the region.
The seized cocaine has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. While no arrests were reported in connection with this bust, the operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Mexican security forces to combat drug trafficking and disrupt cartel activities. Such actions are crucial in addressing the pervasive influence of organized crime in Mexico and its impact on global drug trade networks.
