In a controversial decision, Morena representatives and their allies voted against removing Cuauhtémoc Blanco’s immunity, shielding him from legal proceedings related to allegations of attempted rape.

Blanco, the former governor of Morelos, faced a request for desafuero (removal of immunity) submitted by the Fiscalía de Morelos. The vote took place in the Sección Instructora of the Cámara de Diputados, where three votes from Morena and allied parties opposed the motion, while only one vote from a PAN deputy supported it.

Critics argue that this decision reflects political maneuvering to protect Blanco, who remains in his position without facing investigations.

The allegations against him have sparked public outrage, with many questioning the integrity of the political system and the influence of partisan loyalty over justice. The session was held behind closed doors, further fueling concerns about transparency and accountability.

This outcome has highlighted the challenges of addressing serious accusations against high-ranking officials in Mexico, where immunity often serves as a shield against legal consequences. The decision has left many wondering about the balance between political power and justice in cases involving public figures.
