Woman brutally assaulted during the 8M protest in Puebla, Mexico

On the night of March 8, International Women’s Day, a man assaulted activist Laura Franco and sent her to the hospital, where she remains in poor health.

On social media, users identified the attacker as Fidel N., a former soldier, and bodyguard, whom they accused of attempted femicide against the activist from Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla.

Laura Franco Blanco, aka “La China,” a corn vendor and activist with the Guardianes de Izúcar group, was assaulted by a neighbor who is already wanted by police authorities.

The victim, who was beaten in the Santiago Mihuacán neighborhood, was taken to a local hospital.

In a statement released online, the Puebla government stated that it strongly condemns the attack on Laura Franco and added:

This violent act is unacceptable and goes against the values ​​of respect, equality, and justice that we promote in our society.
