Jalisco rejects gender identity change in minors

The Congress of Deputies in Jalisco rejected this Friday the reform initiative to allow the change of gender identity to any person, including minors.

With 21 votes against, 13 in favor and one abstention, the reform initiative supported by a resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation was rejected.

The proposal contemplated that minors could modify their gender identity in civil documents in the company of their parents or guardians, or, of the Office of the Attorney General for the Protection of Children and Adolescents.

Civil organizations in favor of the trans community highlight that in 2022 the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation ordered the Congress of Jalisco to carry out the corresponding reform to respect the right to identity that is enshrined in the Constitution.
