An attack by Africanized bees left at least eight people injured, including foreign tourists, in the tourist area of Nuevo Nayarit.

The incident occurred on Sunday, February 16, when the 911 emergency service received a report about the attack inside the restaurant, located between Nayarit Boulevard and 5 de Mayo Street.

Immediately, personnel from the Tourist Police, Civil Protection of Bahía de Banderas, and rescuers from the company “Baywatch” arrived at the scene to assist the victims, who had numerous bee stings. The affected people were unable to get to safety after hearing the buzzing of the swarm of insects. The rescue teams proceeded to delimit the area of the attack and evacuate those present, sheltering them in nearby restaurants and businesses.

The victims, who were stung by Africanized bees, were taken by ambulance to the IMSS General Hospital Zone 33 in Altavela, where one of them was reported to be in serious condition. The other victims received medical attention at the same hospital.

After an inspection in the vicinity of the restaurant, it was determined that the swarm of bees came from a nearby construction site. Immediately, personnel from Citizen Protection, State Firefighters, and Bahía de Banderas Firefighters eradicated the bees using pressurized water and soap.

Subsequently, the authorities issued recommendations to passersby and business owners in the area to avoid future incidents.
