Two years after receiving millions of visitors who will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mexico City Benito Juárez International Airport (AICM) was recognized as the third most punctual airport in the world in 2024.

The recognition was by the consulting firm Cirium, which is responsible for analyzing and processing data from the aviation industry globally.

Authorities at Benito Juárez Airport, now under the administration of the Ministry of the Interior (Semar), highlighted that this air terminal has the mission of providing the best service for users.

For 2025, the federal government allocated a budget of 3 billion pesos to implement a remodeling of the two Benito Juárez air terminals, to create a better experience for tourists arriving for the World Cup.

According to Cirium, the punctuality of a flight is defined as one that arrives within 15 minutes after the scheduled time, while in the case of airports, it is measured by the departure of flights within the same time frame.

Cirium’s executive director, Jeremy Bowen, highlighted that on-time performance not only measures whether a flight took off as scheduled, but also reflects the quality of an airport’s operations and collaboration with its strategic partners.

This recognition is part of the annual awards that Cirium gives to airlines and airports with the best operational practices.

The award categories include the Most Punctual Global Airline, the Most Punctual Global Airport, and regional awards.

According to AICM authorities, this progress was possible thanks to the reorganization of spaces and flight schedules, known as ‘slot’ management, as well as the joint effort of airport managers and workers.

This progress takes on special relevance in the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host with Canada and the United States. AICM is emerging as one of the main gateways for the millions of visitors expected during the event.
