Authorities have intensified operations in several municipalities to purge the security forces and eradicate corruption in police corporations
Police detentions
In Chiapa de Corzo a total of 89 police officers were arrested, including the director of the Municipal Police.
A total of nine directors and former directors of police corporations have been arrested in Chiapas for their alleged links to criminal groups, as well as for the crimes of extortion, abuse of office, and criminal association.
These arrests are part of the operations carried out in eight municipalities by the new Secretariat of Public Security, in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office and federal forces.
Since the beginning of these actions, the authorities have managed to arrest 261 police officers, including eight men and one woman who held high positions in municipal security corporations.
The operations have been carried out in Comitán de Domínguez, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Bochil, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Villaflores, Villacorzo, Chiapa de Corzo, and Acapetahua.
On December 23, 2024, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, nine municipal police officers were arrested.
On January 23, in another operation, Diego “N”, Secretary of Security of Villaflores, and Xóchitl “N”, Director of Roads and Traffic of the same municipality, were arrested for their alleged participation in an extortion network that charged protection money to transporters.
The government of Chiapas has intensified the purge of the security forces in response to complaints about the infiltration of organized crime in the police forces. The authorities have assured that the operations will continue in different municipalities across the state to eradicate corruption and guarantee confidence in the security institutions.
