Authorities arrested Joel Medina Miyazaki, alias “La Morsa” (The Walrus), operator of the Pacific Cartel and collaborator of Aureliano Guzmán Loera in Mexico City

In a joint operation, elements of the National Defense, Navy, National Guard, Attorney General’s Office, and Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection arrested Joel Medina Miyazaki, alias “La Morsa”, identified as a close collaborator of Aureliano Guzmán Loera, alias “El Guano”, leader of a faction of the Pacific Cartel.

The arrest was made in the Narvarte Poniente neighborhood, in the Benito Juárez municipality, Mexico City, after intelligence work identified Medina as responsible for clandestine laboratories for the manufacture of fentanyl in the city of Elota, Sinaloa. The detainee was also in charge of the distribution of synthetic drugs to the United States.

It should be noted that the investigation revealed that Medina Miyazaki moved between Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and the Narvarte Poniente neighborhood, where he took refuge under the protection of his sister, María Eugenia Medina Miyazaki, alias “La Maru,” a former local deputy of the PRI in Sinaloa.

The authorities said she facilitated his accommodation and guaranteed his safety in different homes.

Joel Medina, 37 years old, was placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry, which will determine his legal situation and put together the corresponding investigation file.
