Villahermosa, Tab., January 5, 2025.- At least five people died and seven were injured in the attack on the La Casita Azul bar, which occurred in Villahermosa, Tabasco, on the night of Saturday, January 4. Fernando Vázquez Rosas, spokesman for the state government, confirmed the deaths; none of those responsible have been captured.

State and federal forces arrived at the nightclub, located in the Tamulté neighborhood, to carry out an operation and search for those responsible for this armed attack. While paramedics transported the injured people to different hospitals in the Tabasco capital.

Personnel from the Forensic Medical Service were in charge of recovering the bodies; the identity of the victims was reserved by the authorities. Meanwhile, forensic agents began the first investigations to determine the motive of this new attack against a nightclub.

One of the lines of investigation is that it was a possible confrontation between the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and La Barredora, criminal organizations that dispute the control of some areas for drug trafficking, extortion (protection fees) and other crimes.

Tabasco is once again the epicenter of the attack on a bar: on November 24, armed subjects entered the DBar and murdered six people. On that occasion, the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSyPC), Omar García Harfuch, announced that there was coordination between local and federal authorities to clarify the facts.

Between the months of January and November 2024, up to 192 homicides were recorded in the municipality of Centro, where the city of Villahermosa is located, which is an increase of 284 percent compared to the same period in 2023, according to data from the National Citizen Observatory (ONC).

There are also up to 1,150 intentional injuries and up to 221 complaints for drug dealing, an illicit activity that has increased by up to 1,600 percent, since during 2023 there were only 13 complaints, according to data from the same source.

Across the state of Tabasco, 651 intentional homicides were recorded from January to November 2024, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP); at least 500 were committed with a firearm.
