In Tultitlán, State of Mexico, a controversial decision by the local government has sparked significant unrest among residents. The government unilaterally renamed the neighborhood “Cuarta Transformación,” a name associated with former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s regular phrases or with his political agenda. This sudden change included renaming streets with phrases like “Me canso Ganso” “Sembrando Vida” and “Abrazos no Balazos” without consulting the community.

The decision has faced strong opposition from the residents. Many feel that the new names are politically motivated and do not reflect the identity of their neighborhood. In response, residents have taken matters into their own hands, removing the new street signs and protesting against the change. The lack of consultation and the potential complications in updating official documents have only fueled their discontent.

The current mayor, Ana María Castro Fernández, has defended the decision, arguing that the previous names were unsuitable and that the new names bring a sense of pride. However, the ongoing protests indicate that the community is not ready to accept the change without their input.

This situation highlights the importance of community involvement in decisions directly affecting their daily lives. The residents of Tultitlán are determined to have their voices heard and their neighborhood’s identity respected.

So finally, on Wednesday, January 8th, the people of Tultitlan decided to tear off the street signs and get rid of the “Colonia Cuarta Transformación” once and for all.
