The violence in Chiapas does not stop, it spreads. On Thursday, August 29, children and teachers panicked after armed men shot at two houses and a clinic, right in front of a kindergarten in the municipality of Benemérito de las Américas.

Parents and teachers ran to protect the children. The subjects fired several times, leaving hundreds of shells in the street.

Residents in the area told El Heraldo de Chiapas that they have been surrounded by shootings and confrontations all week.

Also on Thursday, the businessman Mario Gómez González remains missing, according to the search file published by the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office.

According to official reports, the 52-year-old grocery store owner from San Juan Chamula was last seen in his business in downtown Tuxtla Gutiérrez, around 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28.

Testimonies published by the local press indicate that armed men, aboard a black vehicle, arrived at the place where the victim was staying with his family and after exchanging words, tried to take Gómez González by force, but when he resisted, the men shot him. In response, the businessman agreed to go with them.

In addition, in the munciipalities of Chicomuselo and Frontera Copala, conflicts between cartels for control of the territory continue, as do the displacement of residents due to the attacks they have been subjected to.
