A solar eclipse in Mexico? That’s right, in 2023 our country will witness this astronomical phenomenon. According to NASA, this occurs when the moon gets in the way of sunlight and casts its shadow on Earth.
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) explained that in national territory we will have the opportunity to observe two different types of solar eclipses.
Both will be partially visible in almost the entire Republic, except in the areas of maximum occultation. The first will occur on October 14, 2023 and will be an annular eclipse of the Sun in the southeastern region of the country.
The second will occur on April 8, 2024; There will be a total eclipse of the Sun that will cross the northern part of the country, from Sinaloa to Coahuila.
July 1991 was the last time a total solar eclipse could be observed in Mexico, so this will be a great opportunity to enjoy this spectacle of nature again.
Where to see the solar eclipse?
The National Eclipse Committee of Mexico has as one of its objectives to provide accurate and timely information so that it is possible to enjoy the eclipses with complete safety.
For the annular solar eclipse of 2023, some of the observation points will be in Yucatan: Maxcanú, Sisal, Tekak, Arcadio Poveda Planetarium and Yumtsil Ecological Park. In Quintana Roo, the Yook’ol Kaab planetariums in Chetumal, Ka’yok’ in Cancun, Cha’an Ka’an in Cozumel, and Sayab in Playa del Carmen. In Campeche, the capital and some of the municipalities in the trajectory of the annularity.
In addition, the Committee is preparing the transmission in real time of the eclipses from various points in order to follow their trajectory as the shadow of the Moon passes over the national territory.
