Constellation Brands will take advantage of the location of its new plant in Veracruz to bring its beers to the East Coast of the US.

A little over a year after announcing its plant in Veracruz, the president of the Constellation Brands brewery, Daniel Baima, assured that its construction is advancing on time and form; in fact, the following year they will begin logistics tests.

According to the manager, from their new complex they could increase their participation in the East Coast of the United States, since they could send it from the port located in that entity in ships, as well as trains or trucks.

For Constellation Brands, he commented, the issue of logistics costs is very important, but Veracruz opens up the possibility of exporting to the American Union through two new means of transportation.

At a press conference, Baima commented that they currently export around 400 million cases of beer per year, however, they hope to increase it by 50% and reach 600 million cases per year.

For this reason, he considered that the construction process of his plant is going on.

“In Veracruz what we are doing now is an investment of 1,300 million dollars. We are going in stages, construction began at the end of the year, transportation tests will begin in the middle of next year, taking advantage of all the ports that the state has,” he said.

In fact, he recalled that they have investment commitments in the Mexican Republic for 5,400 million pesos over the next 4 years, a part of which would be for Veracruz, but also to increase their capacities in Nava, Coahuila, as well as in Obregon, Sonora.

Baima highlighted that Mexican beer has been a success in the United States, in fact, Modelo Especial is the second best-selling brand, while Corona is in fourth position; however, they want it to be the best seller in that country.

Regarding his plant canceled in Mexicali, Baja California, he reiterated that they have moved part of that infrastructure to their other complexes; although he ruled out that they have received any compensation from the federal government.

It was in June 2015 when Constellation Brands announced its new plant in Mexicali, however, in March 2020, that project was canceled after a popular consultation promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, due to water issues.

In April 2022, the brewery announced that it would build its complex in Veracruz, where it already had 14 water concessions, while its progress would take place as the rest of the environmental and construction permits were obtained.
