MEXICO CITY—Mexico’s government is working to improve inspections of aircraft and medical screenings of pilots, and to create an independent body for investigating incidents and accidents, in a bid to recover the highest U.S. aviation safety rating, which it lost two years ago.
The measures could lead to more and cheaper flights to top Mexican destinations for Americans, such as Cancún, Los Cabos, and Mexico City, industry analysts said. A record 13 million Americans flew to Mexico last year, according to Mexico’s government.
